Gr 5-8-These thorough team biographies devote equal time to describing each Major League Soccer (MLS) club's origin and gameplay basics. MLS is the most international league in the world and has a high volume of turnover, so many of the books address the language barriers as well as how difficult it is to create a cohesive team when the roster is constantly changing. Fact callouts, "What You Should Know" blurbs, superstar profiles, and time lines offer great bite-size bits of information that break up the text-heavy pages. The quality of the writing varies from title to title. The titles with the best sports writing are D.C. United, Seattle Sounders, and Sporting Kansas City. Sporadic typos make some books, like Chicago Fire, less valuable than others. VERDICT This is a series librarians will want to cherry-pick for big names and local interest.
