When the luxurious Blue Train arrives at Nice, a guard attempts to wake serene Ruth Kettering from her slumbers. But she will never wake again—for a heavy blow has killed her, disfiguring her features almost beyond recognition. What is more, her precious rubies are missing.

The prime suspect is Ruth's estranged husband, Derek. Yet Hercule Poirot is not convinced, so he stages an eerie reenactment of the journey, complete with the murderer on board. . . .

One of the few things you can rely on in this life is that a Hercule Poirot story is going to be engaging and the second is that Audio Partners will bring it to you superbly done and at a great price. Katherine Grey decides to see a little of the world when she inherits a tidy nest egg from an old employer. She opts for a trip to the French Riviera on the famous blue train. She gets more than she bargained for when the lady she befriends on the train turns up dead. Luckily for her, the famous Belgian is on board, and, as she helps Poirot unearth clues, she stumbles on romance and adventure in this diverting tale from a time gone by. John Moffatt expertly personifies the moneyed classes with their belief that they're above such nasty things as murder. He carries off with aplomb the many characters' emotional ups and downs and is especially good with the charming bravado of the upper-crust playboy about to receive his comeuppance. D.G. Katherine Grey's life changes dramatically after she inherits a large sum of money. A trip to the Riviera on the Blue Train is her first adventure. When she meets Hercule Poirot, she's thrown into the investigation of a wealthy American's murder. This successful dramatization by BBC Radio is enhanced by appropriate sound effects, such as train whistles, gun shots and clinking glasses. The American, British and French accents are well done and make it easy to identify the main characters. This presentation will appeal to audio listeners as well as theater fans who will feel like they have a front-row seat. C.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
