Gr 3-5-This bright and cheerful compendium on all things cats will satisfy even the most avid cat lovers. Children will enjoy the book's wide range of facts, which include everything from practical information on pet care and health to historical and cultural information. Colorful illustrations, photographs, and easy-to-read infographics and diagrams keep the text from becoming overwhelming. While the scientific factoids are fascinating, the hands-on how-tos on cat ownership are what really make this title worthwhile. A thorough index, an updated list of further reading, and relevant websites are included. VERDICT A bright and informative encyclopedia for feline enthusiasts. A smart purchase for public library pet sections.-Savannah Kitchens, Parnell Memorial Library, Montevallo, AL

Grades 4-8 Cats saunter into the spotlight in this offering from the A Kid's Guide to Pets series (2 titles). More robust than the average pet guide, this title introduces cat owners to feline behavior, care, communication, training, and safety. Moore writes with an obvious love for and expertise on cats, maintaining a knowledgeable but playful tone throughout. Her own orange tabby, Casey, frequently appears with insightful comments, such as a recommendation that humans greet cats with a slow blink, which a comfortable kitty will return. The text is littered with craft ideas, including simple instructions for building cat condos, scratching posts, and toys. Every page features at least one cat or kitten photo, sometimes with funny speech bubbles added for comic effect. Purrfect for all libraries and released simultaneously with A Kid's Guide to Dogs.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
