INTRODUCING ANDORRA from Kelbourne Woolens

Can a Teal Cowl Heal HATRED IN AMERICA? • On August 12, 2017, three blocks from Magpie Knits in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia, thirty-two-year-old Heather Heyer was killed and nineteen others were injured when a white supremacist plowed his car into a crowd of people who were counterprotesting the Unite the Right rally going on that day. Later, two state troopers who had been monitoring the event from the air died when their helicopter crashed outside the city.

MOTO KNITS • TRAVEL-WORTHY KNITS TO WEAR WHEN THE JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION

THROTTLE MOTO JACKET • Inspired by classic leather motorcycle jackets, the Throttle Moto Jacket is perfect for days you aren’t on the road (we strongly encourage everyone to wear a leather jacket while riding a motorcycle). This jacket is the layering piece you need to cope with spring’s many moods. Striped linen stitch creates the woven looking pattern, and the finishing zipper, pockets, and snaps elevate the jacket to motorcycle-worthy status.

DUAL SPORT PULLOVER • Ride off to the coast in style in the Dual Sport Pullover. The cable motif, inspired by rippling sand patterns left by retreating waves, embellishes the front and back of this simple and wearable raglan sweater.

TORQUE HAT • The textured, casual Torque Hat is available in slouch and beanie styles suitable for any road nomad (beanie style shown on page 32). The band is worked in half linen stitch and is adjustable when paired with a leather snap closure.

SCOOT JACKET • Inspired by a fitted and feminine leather jacket, the Scoot Jacket has a clever peplum and cabled waist details that create an unexpected and flattering shape. The body of this jacket is worked in one piece to eliminate bulky seams.

STRAIGHTAWAY CARDIGAN • The Straightaway Cardigan is handsome enough for a man, but the design is truly unisex. This oversized drop-shoulder cardigan showcases an allover geometric pattern that combines brioche stitch and garter-stitch squares in interesting vertical and horizontal lines. The edging is worked in garter stitch to enhance the garter squares in the cardigan body.

OPEN ROAD VEST • Wear the Open Road Vest under a leather motorcycle jacket with skinny jeans and boots or over a flowing maxi dress—either way, this fresh knit is perfect for spring layering. The A-line silhouette flatters, and the central panel is visually compelling and easy to work.

BRONSON ROCK PULLOVER • The Bronson Rock Pullover combines bold diagonal cables, garter-stitch texture, and contrasting stockinette sleeves for a sleek, masculine look. The columns of arrowheads and twisting cables grow out of the wide garter-stitch hem, and the collar and cuffs—with their twisted knit and garter stitches—match.

MACHINE SEWING ON HANDKNITS • It’s easy to insert zippers or add grosgrain ribbon backing to buttonbands—just a few simple tricks make these tasks foolproof. The trick to working with stretchy (i.e., handknitted) fabric lies in manipulating it without stretching it out.

COMBINING PLAIN STOCKINETTE WITH STRANDED COLORWORK • Compared to knitting stockinette stitch using just one color, knitting stranded colorwork can sometimes feel like a juggling act. Not only do you have to pay attention to the color pattern, you also have to manage working with two (or more) colors at the same time while trying to keep the tension of the fabric smooth...
